Somewhere I remember reading that Marat Safin had a little bit more awesome left in him…where was that…oh wait, that was here! The guy I dubbed the ultimate has-been showed he’s not done yet when Safin dumped third-seeded Novak Djokovic out of Wimbledon in the second round in straight sets (6-4, 7-6, 6-2).
It took Safin […]

Well, yesterday I chose David Nalbandian to pick on and today, that torch has been passed to Nikolay Davydenko. The fourth-seeded player was booted by Benjamin Becker in the first round in three sets, all to the tune of 6-4. With that lackluster performance, Davydenko gets the Slacker of the Day award.
Venus Williams made the […]

Despite all the excitement of Wimbledon whirling around us, I wanted to take a quick break and focus on something else for a bit: John McEnroe, Tatum O’Neal and Andy Warhol to be exact.
McEnroe is planning to auction off a portrait of him and his ex-wife O’Neal at Sotheby’s in London during the Wimbledon fortnight. […]

Oh the carnage! Opening day at Wimbledon has come and gone, and half of those who took the court today are disappointed. The other half are not. (Deep - I know…)
I got home from work today and flipped through the draw to see who was still alive and kickin’. This morning I mentioned that Lleyton […]

And it’s here! The countdown is over, the waiting is past - now it’s time to just kick back and watch the drama unfold.
Roger Federer sailed through the first round in straight sets (6-3, 6-2, 6-2) over Dominik Hrbaty and will be squaring off against Robin Soderling in the second round. The experts say that’s […]

The votes have been cast and the three top-ranked men in the world are now members of the ATP Player Council. Roger Federer was elected to a two-year term Saturday and Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic were elected to terms that began Sunday.
Problems have been broiling around the ATP’s decisions as of late, specifically […]

Nothing gets me in the mood for Wimbledon more than looking back at some of the previous matches. The 2007 final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal was a classic: the first couple minutes are really all that matter. And the emotion Roger showed at the end of that match…it’s what it’s all about folks.

The draws are out for Wimbledon and boy are they interesting. Rather than pick my own winners for this tournament (I mean - the French was easy - hello Nadal…but Wimbledon?), Tennis.com had a great rundown of the draws and who was going to be the winner. I’m not saying I agree; I’m just saying […]

I know it’s been said over and over, this whole mental aspect of tennis. The mental aspect of sport really: it’s not confined to just tennis. But since this is a tennis blog, we’re darn well going to talk about tennis.
When it comes to confidence, I think Novak Djokovic is just brimming with it. And […]

This is going to be short and sweet because, well, it’s not a surprise and do we care anyway? No, I didn’t think so. Because like any other sport, seedings and rankings are only a number. Once Wimbledon starts, then it’s all about who wins and who loses.
But for now, since Wimbledon hasn’t started yet, […]
