Apparently Rafa was only the first in a string of toppled giants. Roger Federer lost a tightly-contested two-set match to Radek Stepanek in the Rome Masters quarterfinals 7-6(4), 7-6(7). I don’t know which type of loss is harder: the one where you get completely blown off the court or the one where you’re so incredibly […]

Her hope of using the German Open to get ready for the French didn’t materialize for Justine Henin after Dinara Safina used three sets to send Henin packing in the third round.
Henin had been to the last six German Open finals and won three of them. Two of those victories preluded her first two French […]

I’m a little late in putting in my two cents on this, but I spent the whole day moving cattle. Yes, it’s true - I wear my cowboy boots just as well as I wear my tennis shoes and I hold the reins of my horse just as proficiently as I hold my tennis racket. […]

It’s been quite awhile since we’ve had a clash of this nature: Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova will be facing each other in the quarterfinals of the Family Circle Cup. Lately, those big clashes that have been forecast usually end up being duds. Hopefully this one isn’t one of those.
Serena has had Sharapova’s number as […]

The question of who would represent France in the Davis Cup quarterfinal series with the United States was answered on its own when Jo-Wilfried Tsonga withdrew with a right knee injury.
Tsonga will be replaced with Arnaud Clement - whoever that is. Richard Gasquet, Paul Henri-Mathieu and Michael Llodra. And the United States will be represented […]

Jelena Jankovic managed to fight back and win the second set to force the third and, after being down 5-0, won the next three games but Serena Williams squelched Jankovic’s comeback try to repeat as the defending champion at the Sony Ericsson Open.
Serena stormed to a one set lead, winning the first 6-1 but Jankovic […]

Competition is truckin’ along down in Miami, and the biggest news so far today is Serena Williams’ upset of Justine Henin. Williams dominated the world number one. And when I say dominated, I mean - well - dominated. 6-2, 6-0 - game, set, match Williams.
I didn’t get to see the match, but it doesn’t sound […]

If you haven’t heard of it yet, you will. Venus Williams has launched her new company EleVen. It’s housed at EleVenbyVenus.com and showcases a line of athletic clothing and sneakers.
It’s very Venus-esque. Surpisingly little bling as of yet. And maybe it’s a typo but the magic number seems to be $8.98.
Also included are event dates, […]

There were all types of droughts broken last week and Serena Williams finally got her first title win in 11 months. Williams beat Patty Schnyder 7-5, 6-3 Sunday in the Bangalore Open.
Williams got to the final after beating Venus in three sets in the semi-final. Kind of just like old times, right?

Serena hasn’t played a match since she lost in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. That’s a fair bit of time to go by without a match. Especially when it’s your job. Maybe I’ll try that tomorrow.
“See ya in a couple months, boss.”
Somehow I doubt that’s going to go over quite the way I hope.
Despite […]
