Celebrity Tennis
It’s not unusual for the celebs to be a part of the game of tennis for a charity event. The Bank of the West Pro-Celebrity Tennis Classic was Saturday. Hosted by Luke and Murphy Jensen, former French Open doubles champions, the event featured the hosts, Jennifer Capriati and Monica Seles while having appearances from the acting world by David Duchovny, Scott Foley and Donna Mills.
I like the idea of events like these. One of the charities designated as a recipient was the Jensen-Schmidt Tennis Academy for Down Syndrome. I think that’s important - not the tennis part so much as the Down Syndrome part. Tennis wouldn’t have to be a part of it for it to be a good cause.
Maybe I’m just too wrapped up in the spirit of the season, but I wish more people would do things like this. There are a lot of people out there with a lot of financial means at their disposal. Use it for something good.
Although we do have to cut some slack for some of the tennis players.
I would have loved to see Martina Hingis play here, but she’s too busy fighting crime - ahem - drug charges.
