Contest! - Win a Tennis Teddy Bear!

by Erica on November 4th, 2007

I tried posting this earlier today, but my internet punked out. And it was sad because I had fabulously wonderful news! In case the awesome foreshadowing of my title didn’t clue you in, I am having a contest!

It’s pretty simple really. I like things simple. They tend to work a lot better for me. There really is only one thing you have to do - tell me a story. I always do all the writing except for my faithful commenters (thanks - this is your shout-out!) and I thought it high-time to share the responsibility a bit.

I want to hear one of your most embarrassing tennis stories.

Yep, that’s really it. Post it as a comment to this entry, and a week from now - Sunday, Nov. 11 - the contest will end at 7 p.m. Pacific time. I, along with some of my colleagues, will choose the best story.

On to the good stuff - the prize for winning this ultra-cool contest. A tennis teddy bear - courtesy of Vermont Teddy Bear. It’s actually kinda cool - a nifty little teddy bear if I do say so myself.

So - start commenting with your embarrassing tennis stories and feel free to comment on the other stories posted.  I’ll even start it out for you:

“Once upon a time, on a tennis court, I did something embarrassing…”

I had a co-worker who played tennis almost everyday during lunch. I used to tell him that tennis wasn’t that hard of sport and that anyone could do it. So we made a bet that I could beat him in a match of tennis. I was so confident that I told him I only needed one week to practice. I bought a racket and some balls and used my girlfriend as a human target. A week came around and it was time to play. Long story short, he embarrassed me on the court. There were even other co-workers standing around watching and laughing at me. He never let me forget that day.

    BLACK-EYED JODIE

Not only is this a decent tennis story, it’s also the closest I’ve ever come to feeling like I was in a Looney Tunes cartoon.

Before I was a kick-arse singles player in high school (*heart flutters as she relives past glory*), I played doubles. I made the ultimate newbie mistake: I was at the net and my partner was taking for-evah to serve. I turned around to see what the hold up was and POW! Right in the eye. Needless to say, I had a shiner for a week. Sexy!

My Most embarrassing tennis story was when I was trying to show off my killer serve and judged the angle wrong and ended up pegging a guy playing in the next court in the head. Big Mistake =)

Once upon a time, on a tennis court, I did something embarrassing. Really, I was trying to impress the beautiful lass next to me. Big mistake! My opponent hit a great swerving ball. I knew I wasn’t going to reach it but playing the hero, I stretched. Next thing I knew, I had done the split and torn my hamstring. My partner even had to help me up. Most embarrassing! I never had the courage to ask her out for a game after that!

MY most embarrassing moments in tennis was back when I was just 17 years old.

I had just picked up tennis and thought i was pretty good at it. My friends and I decided to ask 2 girls along 1 fine day so that we can have a mixed doubles game. The girl that was with me was someone I fancied for quite some time.

Halfway through the game, I suddenly chanced upon an opportunity to show off my recently acquired volley skills.

I was standing way back (with my partner not too far in front off me) and I gave it my all. the tennis ball flew with such might…. right into my staring partner’s eyes… and she promptly collapsed and fainted… took quite a while before she woke up.
Totally embarrassing for me especially when I was trying to impress her with my great tennis skills.

In any case, I blogged about your tennis bear blog contest.

My most embarressing moment was when I tossed up the ball to serve but missed the ball and it hit my head. (Well, its not really my fault, the sun was in my eyes!)
