Federer Edges Sampras in Exhibition Match
Even though Roger Federer has been ailing and is in danger of losing his strangle hold on the number one slot in men’s tennis, he still managed to eke out a win in an exhibition against Pete Sampras.
After a 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 victory for Federer, it still doesn’t solve the question of who is better. There never will be an answer to that question because the playing field isn’t level. Federer is 26. Sampras is 36. A decade of difference just as well be a million miles. But still. It was fun. And it earned Federer a million bucks. I’d go out and hit a few balls with the former tip-top player too if it came with that kind of dollar sign.
