Federer Loses in First Round to…Murray?
That’s right, you read it correctly. Andy Murray beat Roger Federer in the first round of the Dubai Championships. Murray came from a set down to beat Federer 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.
That is kind of important. More important however was Federer’s words afterwards.
“I don’t think he’s changed his game a whole lot since I played him in the Bangkok final. Not that I’m disappointed but I really would have thought he would have changed it in some ways.”
Umm, Roger? You lost.
Murray’s response to Federer’s analysis of his game was simple. “You do different things against different players.” He referred to his game against Rafael Nadal at the 2007 Australian Open, citing that the way he played that game wasn’t the right way to play against Federer.
The scoreboard doesn’t lie. Murray must have done something right - he won, didn’t he?
