Federer Thinking Long-term
In case you haven’t noticed, tennis isn’t a fleeting endeavor for Roger Federer. In a recent article on ESPN, Federer has suggested he would like to keep playing until he’s 35. That’s nine more years for those who struggle with mathematics.
When you have an athlete of Roger’s caliber in the ranks, there is always a lot of speculation. How good is he really when stacked up against history? Is he the best? Just how good is he going to be by the time his career ends?
An interesting note that is touched on from time to time is how well Roger’s body has stood up to the rigors of the game. So many players constantly battle injuries and Roger seems to maintain relatively injury-free seasons. Another contributor to his success.
Only time will tell how much Federer is going to accomplish. I’m a fan of Roger. I like his style of play and I like his demeanor on the court, but one constant in sports that holds true across all boards is that someone, someday is going to be better than you.
While you’re at the top of the game, someone else is coming up through the ranks, bettering themselves and preparing for the day they will beat you. It’s like the law of gravity - it’s going to happen. Just a question of when.
