Jankovic: Quantity to Quality

by Erica on December 24th, 2007

The whole population of tennis followers knew Jelena Jankovic’s schedule was too ridiculously full. She wore herself out. I was wondering if Jankovic knew she was overbooked. Turns out she does.

“I’m going to cut back,” said the Serbian to Charles Bricker of the Sun-Sentinel in Florida.

Cut back indeed. Jankovic played 97 matches in 2007 and ended the season with a 72-25 record, including three straight losses in the season-ending WTA Championships.

Jankovic is recovering from surgery on a deviated septum in November (in her nose).

So. Will the No. 3 player be in better shape for better tennis next year? I hope so. I like Jankovic but you also have to be honest: she has to improve and up her game if she’s going to stay at the top.
