Jankovic, Sharapova, Henin move on in Australian Open

by Erica on January 18th, 2008

I took a break from watching reruns and when I came back to my television to watch some live 2008 Australian Open, my cable had stopped working.

What?!? You gotta be kidding me!

Oh no, it wasn’t. Thank goodness for the internet, I guess.

Maria Sharapova and Justine Henin are pretty determined to make this quarterfinal something amazing, aren’t they? Both top-ranked players handled their opponents with ease to move on in the Australian Open - Sharapova dismissing Elena Vesnina to set up a meeting with Elena Dementieva. Should Sharapova pass that test, she’ll find herself in the quarters with Henin (providing Henin also wins…).

Serena won. End of story. She’s a woman on a mission - does she repeat her out-of-the-blue title from last year? I dunno…I like Henin - if she can make it through Blondie in the quarters as previously noted.

Jelena Jankovic somehow survived another three-set match and I’m going to go out on a wee bit of a limb here and say that when Jankovic runs into some stiff competition, she’s going to fold. Not much of a limb that I’m venturing out on but a limb nonetheless.
