Murray Drops out of Davis Cup
The recently anointed world No. 12 Andy Murray (falling from No. 9) has dropped off Great Britain’s Davis Cup team. The Brits are set to square-off against Argentina on outdoor clay Feb. 8-10 in Buenos Aires.
Great Britain’s leading lady man has withdrawn from Davis Cup play because of a knee injury.
“The experts have advised me that going from hard courts to playing five-set matches on clay and then back to indoor hard courts could increase the chances of further injury, set me back even more, and I don’t want to take that risk,” said Murray.
Yeah, me either. We’re supposed to get pounded with snow again tonight and tomorrow - let me consult the experts on whether I should venture outside my door to go to work or not.
On a serious note, injury is a legitimate reason to pull out of a competition. Continuing to play with the knowledge that you’re injured is stupid. However, I think hiding behind a curtain of experts is kind of - well - as my old criminal justice professor used to say - “candy ass.”
