Philippoussis, Remember Him?
I remember back in the day when Mark Philippoussis used to be a pretty common name flung around the table during tennis conversations. Okay, I really didn’t have that many conversations about tennis around a table. Ironically enough, those hardcore tennis fans that sit around and talk the sport are relatively few and far between.
Anyway, Philippoussis was a name that wasn’t on the end of the stick, ya know? But these days, he’s finding it difficult to make a consistent run at anything starting with ‘t’ and ending in ‘ennis.’ Knee injuries and surgeries will do that to a player.
The 31-year-old will be going under the knife for another knee surgery immediately as confirmed by Tennis Australia. Nothing like going on the set of Grey’s. Philippoussis had just beaten Brydan Klein in the wildcard play-off but this recent turn of developments has put Klein back in the race.
Bummer-o for Philippoussis. There comes a time when you can’t keep bouncing back from scalpels and 31 years of age is just such a time.
