Player-Coach Relations, How Far is Too Far?

by Erica on October 11th, 2007

Claire Lyte, a tennis coach and an ex-professional tennis player, could tell you just how far is too far. I would also wager a guess she’s wishing it hadn’t gone that far. In 2005, Lyte was allegedly caught in bed with her 13-year-old tennis pupil. By the girl’s mother.

At the beginning of this month, the courts were just beginning to hear the case as the mother-daughter duo recently went to the police with their accusations against Lyte. The coach, for obvious reasons, did not take the case to the po-po’s when it happened about two years ago.

The alleged victim said she didn’t want to come forward for fear of what it would do to her tennis career. The defendant claims the mother conjured up the false charges when her daughter didn’t achieve the expected success under Lyte’s tutelage.

She said this, she said that - Jodie over on Gossip on Sports provides witty commentary about who’s story has the trump card and is worthy of a thorough read.

So, player-coach relations, how far is too far?  I was going to say utilize your discretion but I think some folks might lack a bit in that department. I also think it’s entirely deserving of another installment. Check back for part deux of the Player-Coach Relations series!
