Player-Coach Relations Part Deux

by Erica on October 14th, 2007

Sometimes I have observations and sometimes I like to talk about them.

Player-coach relationships can be a big deal.  Look at Andy Roddick. Being coached by Jimmy Connors was a pretty big factor in his career. And how many times have we seen Maria Sharapova’s coach mimic a monkey and wave bananas around?

The relationships and the going-ons between players and coaches are never really focused on unless something goes awry. Sooner or later, as this is the world and people are often humans, something does go wrong and they end up plastered all over the front pages.

If only people could just be decent human beings, follow the rules and just play some freakin’ tennis.

In the absence of that happening, I guess we could just all follow Roger Federer’s example and do without coaches which tidily takes care of any player-coach relation issues.
