Roger Federer losing his grip?
I haven’t talked about one of the most talked about tennis players for awhile so I thought it was about time I slip a little something-something back into here about him.
Sandra Harwitt writes about Roger Federer for Tennis.com in her article Clocking the Fed Express: Losing or gaining speed? Ever since Federer wound up the 2007 season with nine losses, the most since he’s had a strangle-hold on the No. 1 slot, his naysayers have popped out of the woodwork.
Harwitt does a nice job of covering the bases - you should read her stuff. Personally, I think Federer is just fine. These players have had four years to figure him out. It’s about time some of them can pick up enough tricks to beat him a time or two out of every 10 times they play.
Being the best isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being better than the rest on a consistent basis. And Roger Federer has definitely proven that he understands what being the best is all about.
Giving up a match here and there is - well - human. And it’s nice for the rest of us to see that Federer does indeed have those human qualities. Roger knows what he is doing. Recording a single number in the loss column, staying at No. 1, winning three Grand Slams and earning over $8 million? That doesn’t sound like a loose grip to me.
