Sampras Back on the Main Stage
So I may have spoke prematurely yesterday. It’s okay. I can admit when I’m wrong. I think it makes me a bigger person…
Pete Sampras won the third game of the exhibition series, 7-6, 6-4 over Roger Federer. When I first read the news article, I thought my short night of sleep was causing me to see things.
But then I realized that no, my childhood tennis hero really had won the match, raising him back up into the spotlight with questions about whether he would come out of retirement.
Sampras said he was not. That’s what he said, anyway.
Federer was a bit embarrassed as one might think but both players were the epitome of politeness as I touched on briefly yesterday.
Federer was very graceful in the loss, mentioning that it had been hard beating his idol the previous two times but that he “hoped we can do it again in the future. I’d like to get him back.”
And that’s why I like Federer. The guy just doesn’t quit.
