Serena and Andy Murray Crash Out of French Open
They say when it’s your time to go, you just go. Serena Williams and Andy Murray discovered that today at the French Open.
Murray lost to Nicolas Almagro 6-3, 7-6, 6-3, 6-3 and ended Murray’s hopes of making a run into the second week at Roland Garros. Perhaps Murray was living up to his recent declarations of working on his attitude because after the match, the top British player had some positive things to say.
“I think I proved I’m a good clay court player. I’m not someone that’s going to be taken lightly on this surface in the future I don’t think. I believe I’m going to be one of the top players on clay in a couple years.”
Do it, to it Murray. Way to exude confidence…you just gotta back it up now.
The big news in the women’s draw was Serena’s crash and burn. The American, who had been on such a hot streak earlier this season, lost to Katarina Srebotnik in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Even though I’m well aware Serena is streaky and can bomb a match at any point, this one surprised me. I thought she’d go farther - the quarterfinals at least, but this opens up the field for Ana Ivanovic who was en route to meeting Serena in the quarters if both had won through.
Rafael Nadal, Fernando Verdasco, Novak Djokovic and Paul-Henri Mathieu all moved on in the men’s draw. Maria Sharapova and Jelena Jankovic is well on her way to moving into the third round.
Almost half way through the French Open. The men’s draw has gone about according to what I thought. The women’s however, is completely wide open. Well, as wide open as it can be with the top three seeds still remaining. Maybe it’s just me, but there seems to be a lot of names still playing that I’m not very familiar with.
