Serena Earns Victory Over Sharapova

by Erica on April 20th, 2008

I’m a little late in putting in my two cents on this, but I spent the whole day moving cattle. Yes, it’s true - I wear my cowboy boots just as well as I wear my tennis shoes and I hold the reins of my horse just as proficiently as I hold my tennis racket. Okay, that might be a lie. I’m rusty on my tennis racket holding skills.

Anyway. It would have been a good match to see, the quarterfinal between Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova at the Family Circle Cup. Three sets. Two screamers. One winner.

Granted, I know we already have Serena in the finals after beating unseeded Alize Cornet. That’s fine, but it wasn’t nearly as note-worthy as the two prizefighters duking it out on clay. I’m not all that surprised Serena won. She’s not just a competitor; she has that extra gear where she can just pull matches out and that’s a rare thing.
