There were all types of droughts broken last week and Serena Williams finally got her first title win in 11 months. Williams beat Patty Schnyder 7-5, 6-3 Sunday in the Bangalore Open.
Williams got to the final after beating Venus in three sets in the semi-final. Kind of just like old times, right?

Serena hasn’t played a match since she lost in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. That’s a fair bit of time to go by without a match. Especially when it’s your job. Maybe I’ll try that tomorrow.
“See ya in a couple months, boss.”
Somehow I doubt that’s going to go over quite the way I hope.

As I’m sure you noticed, Rackets and Balls has been experiencing some technical difficulties over the past couple days. I do appreciate your patience and understanding…there’s nothing quite so frustrating as a webpage that won’t come up. Williams beat Gajdosova 6-3, 6-3 in the opening round of the Australian Open to start the push to repeating the title for a second consecutive year.
Other quick notes from the […]

Which way is the right way to prepare for a tennis tournament?
In light of the quickly approaching Australian Open (YAY!!!), Maria Sharapova chose to do a stint in Asia, a few exhibition matches, some tours around the big cities being treated like royalty. Maybe it works, I don’t know.
Serena Williams is playing like a madwoman […]

It’s back to the scoreboard tonight. I’ve strayed from my commentation on tournaments to talk about other things but the beaten path is beaten for a reason and I’m back on it.
Nikolay Davydenko won his second straight Kremlin Cup title in a 7-5, 7-6 (9) win over Paul-Henri Mathieu on Sunday. Davydenko was the top […]
