Williams’ Wimbledon: Third Time Charm for Venus?

Oh bother, they’ve done it again. We should really just start calling this tournament the “Williams’ Wimbledon”. Both Serena and Venus Williams handled their semifinal opponents in straight sets to book their third meeting in the Wimbledon final. The last time the duo was in a Wimbly final was in 2003. Serena won that title […]

Final Four: Women’s Field at Wimbledon

Venus Williams is another step closer to defending her 2007 Wimbledon title. In one of the most crazy, convuluted Wimbledons in recent memory, Williams became the first woman into the semifinals after dispatching Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-4, 6-3. ‘
Elena Dementieva, the highest remaining seed at number five, managed to come through a tough quarterfinal match to […]

Jankovic Ousted, Federer Coasts

Well, it wasn’t the match I was hoping for. It wasn’t anything really. Roger Federer imposed his will on Lleyton Hewitt and ousted the Aussie in straight sets (7-6, 6-2, 6-4) to move into the quarterfinals. Federer looks good, folks. He looks really sharp.
Holy whoa! What have we got going on Court 11?! Fernando […]

Venus, Rafa and Murray into Round of 16

The down and dirty on today:
- Rafael Nadal is rolling. Rolling! Three sets later, Nicolas Kiefer is no more. I’ve never seen Rafa look so dangerous on grass. Anyone in his way is in for a serious fight if they want to move past him.
- I get such a kick out of watching Mikhail Youzhny […]

Davydenko Hasta la Pasta; Jankovic, Venus Move On

Well, yesterday I chose David Nalbandian to pick on and today, that torch has been passed to Nikolay Davydenko. The fourth-seeded player was booted by Benjamin Becker in the first round in three sets, all to the tune of 6-4. With that lackluster performance, Davydenko gets the Slacker of the Day award.
Venus Williams made the […]

Venus Survives Three-Setter in Paris

What a match! Venus Williams was solidly in control of the match with one set under her belt and on top in the second but Tzipora Obziler fought her way back into it to push the match into three sets.
I saw Venus fall apart in the second set. And then I saw her explode in […]

EleVen

If you haven’t heard of it yet, you will. Venus Williams has launched her new company EleVen. It’s housed at EleVenbyVenus.com and showcases a line of athletic clothing and sneakers.
It’s very Venus-esque. Surpisingly little bling as of yet. And maybe it’s a typo but the magic number seems to be $8.98.
Also included are event dates, […]

Serena Wins Bangalore Open

There were all types of droughts broken last week and Serena Williams finally got her first title win in 11 months. Williams beat Patty Schnyder 7-5, 6-3 Sunday in the Bangalore Open.
Williams got to the final after beating Venus in three sets in the semi-final. Kind of just like old times, right?

Popcorn 2008 Tennis Awards

I have been dying to write about the 2008 Popcorn Tennis Awards but it has been overshadowed by things like Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova winning Australian Open titles. Like that is a big deal or something.
(By the way - the “t” on my keyboard is being a bit obstinate and not wanting to work […]

Handling the Media as a Tennis Player

Yeah, I know the Australian Open is still going on. I know Venus Williams was beat by Ana Ivanovic but so do you probably. And Novak Djokovic is in the process of dismantling David Ferrer. But I feel like all I’ve talked about is what the stars are doing on the court (or not doing).
So […]
