Tennis Roundup
As I’m sure you noticed, Rackets and Balls has been experiencing some technical difficulties over the past couple days. I do appreciate your patience and understanding…there’s nothing quite so frustrating as a webpage that won’t come up. Believe me, I totally understand - I’m one of those people that hits the refresh button 20 times and nothing comes up except 20 error messages.
Anyway, with the public service announcement out of the way - on to what we really care about: el tennis!
Because of the sketchy connections - we’re just going to do a bit of a tennis round-up this morning.
- Serena Williams dropped out of next week’s WTA Antwerp Tourney because of dental surgery. Why am I not surprised?
- Elena Dementieva and Agnes Szavay both advanced to the quarterfinals of the Paris Indoor Open Wednesday. Both matches were hard fought battles for the fourth and seventh seeds. Both Daniela Hantuchova and Amelie Mauresmo stand in the way of a title win, however.
- The Americans enter Davis Cup play against Austria. Andy Roddick’s success against Austria’s two top players (Roddick holds a 4-0 record over Stefan Koubek and a 6-0 record over Jurgen Melzer) doesn’t guarantee anything on a slow clay court and a strong Austrian home crowd.
- Janko Tipsarevic will not be representing Serbia in the Davis Cup match with Russia due to stomach problems. Viktor Troicki will be the replacement. Here’s hoping Tipsarevic doesn’t puke too much.
And that’s about it - there’s more fun stuff about a lot of people no one has ever heard of. Some day I’ll give them some love but for now - that’s all I’ve got. Later today, I’ll be addressing Roger Federer’s coachlessness and the man in the stands who’s had his back!
