The Aftermath: Day 1

by Erica on July 8th, 2008

I’ve tried to avoid looking at all the headlines, because I don’t want to see all the Roger Federer-bashers climbing out of the woodwork now that he no longer has a strangle-hold on grass.

Now that I’m a day removed from the felling of the king, I’m…yep…still just as sad, haha. But at the end of the day, some one has to win and some one has to lose. I knew the day was coming when Roger wasn’t going to win Wimbledon. It’s kind of how life works, you know? And like I said yesterday, my gut told me Rafa was going to win it; I just didn’t want to acknowledge it.

Twenty-four hours later, though, I’m acknowledging it because that was one hell of a match. It was one of those matches where both deserved to win. A match that makes you want to have two Wimbledon trophies. But since it doesn’t work that way, that’s why we’re sitting here talking about the aftermath.

The big question, I suppose, is how is Roger going to bounce back from this? He was so close…and he failed. I would think that’s a very big deal to a guy who has been dominant for so long. I think when you’re sooo used to winning, it’s that much harder to get it back together after a big loss.

Note that I said how Fed is going to bounce back. Not if.

Wow, you sound just like me. In fact, I avoided reading your blog all this time because only now can I handle reading about the reactions to Roger’s loss. We’re of the same mind–thanks!
