Top Seedings Go to Federer and Ivanovic
This is going to be short and sweet because, well, it’s not a surprise and do we care anyway? No, I didn’t think so. Because like any other sport, seedings and rankings are only a number. Once Wimbledon starts, then it’s all about who wins and who loses.
But for now, since Wimbledon hasn’t started yet, I’m reduced to talking about the seedings for the Slam. Roger Federer and Ana Ivanovic got top billing. Of course. Now maybe if those two were having a little “extra-curricular” fun then I’d have something juicy to talk about. But I think Roger’s pretty into Mirka (and I don’t care what anyone says - Mrs. Roger is not fat…), and Ana is pretty focused on her tennis (I say that because I have no idea who she’s getting frisky with on the side. Nor do I really care.)
The women’s seedings followed the world rankings right down the line. Jelena Jankovic seeded second, Maria Sharapova seeded third, so on and so forth. (How great is it that Sharapova dropped to third in the world? Amazing!! Unless you’re a fan, of course, and even then I can’t offer condolences - only a cold beer.)
The men were pretty ho-hum as well with the only major blip coming in Marcos Baghdatis. He’s seeded 10th at Wimbledon but ranked 25th in the world. For those who are mathematically challenged, that’s a jump of 15 spots. Great for Baghdatis, might make some of the other players a little peevish, but it wouldn’t be Wimbledon without a little pre-tournament drama, now would it?

Marcos Baghdatis was seeded 15 spots higher than his world ranking for 2008 Wimbledon.

With Federer’s awesomeness so indisputable, I believe his fan base is reduced to the Mirka fat or not fat debate. (I represent the “she’s carrying extra poundage” crowd). But still. . . you have to love the fact that they’ve been together since before his fame took hold!
