Women’s Tennis 2008: Where is it headed?
Sports are unpredictable.
That is an extreme “duh” statement on my part. I can see you all right now, reading over this and shaking your head in wonderment at my Captain Obvious spiels. But really, to predict who is going to be amazing in the game of tennis in 2008?
If we were talking men, it would be a little easier. They have been rock solid for a good chunk of time now. But the women? Yeeah.
I think Justine Henin is going to be back in a big way. She’s got the goods and she wrapped up the 2007 season strongly.
From there - things are fuzzy. Sharapova will be in the mix if she can focus on tennis instead of her many other irons in the fire.
The Williams sisters. Jelena Jankovic (who I also think has the potential to be good but hasn’t fulfilled it yet). Some more Russian blondies.
Matt Cronin compiles a “10 questions for 2008″ list. It’s pretty decent. Except for some lame-o ridiculous question about Amelie Mauresmo continuing to be the face for French tennis. How can one continue what one has not been currently doing?
